ABOUT FFA

Final Fantasy Adventure is an action/RPG for Game Boy made by Square Soft in 1991.  Even though this game is called Final Fantasy Adventure, it's actually the first Secret of Mana.  In Japan, Secret of Mana is called Seiken Densetsu which means Legend of the Sword.  Square Soft changed the game's name for America so more people will buy it since Square Soft fans haven't heard of anything besides Final Fantasy yet.  Unlike the Final Fantasy Legend series (Game Boy's other Square Soft RPGs), this game has the traditional airship and the ever-so-famous chocobo.  But you can't ride the airship, instead it's like a dungeon you gotta go through. Final Fantasy Adventure is a one-of-a-kind game.

The stories begins with a warrior fighting against a giant beast. The battle's purpose is to entertain a king, that is the life of the warrior. One day a good friend of him dies from his battle wounds and tells the warrior how to escape. The warrior successfully escapes and runs away from the castle to a waterfall. He notices a mysterious man and a knight talking in front a waterfall. He spies on them and listens to their evil plot. When the man disappears, the knight notices the presence of the warrior. He chases him up to the edge of a cliff and pushes him over. The warrior falls down and lands safely in a field. He battles his way across the land to stop the evil knight and that mysterious man from possessing the true power of Mana.

Very similar to Zelda, you explore a world and fight monsters that stand in your way.  You can equip yourself with several different weapons that each have their own advantage.  Every time you gain a level you get to choose if you want to gain more stamina, power, wisdom, or will.  Stamina makes you last longer in battle.  Power makes your attack more effective.  Wisdom makes your spells stronger.  Will increases the speed of your max attack meter.  Your max attack is pretty handy.  There's a different max attack for every weapon you can be equipped with.  Your max attack meter starts out slow and slowly goes faster each time you gain a level.  You need a lot of patience to get used to this game when you first start it.  Always remember to look at your energy!  You tend to forget about it at first.  There are also helpful people that join you for a while in the game.  One of them raises your HP, most of them aid you in battle, one of them raises your MP, and you can even buy stuff from one of them. For more information on this game check out my walkthrough. It also has 8 giant maps (and 1 small one) to make exploring easier for you.

Not all enemies can be defeated by the same weapons.  Some enemies can't be defeated by weapons at all!  In cases like that, you gotta use your magic.  When you enter a room that needs to have an object placed on a square then that means you need to freeze an enemy with the Ice spell.  When your power meter is full, take advantage of your special attacks.  You will need the special attack of the whip to be able to cross long pits.  Curative items are kind of a pain to keep on using so its more efficient to use the Cure spell instead.

This is definitely one of the BEST Game Boy games ever! It's so fun and it can get quite addicting. The music is pretty good too (for what Game Boy is capable of).  And comparing to other classic Game Boy RPGs, Final Fantasy Adventure has the most dialogue. If you love Game Boy RPGs then you MUST download this game and play it. You will surely love it. The magic in this game is cool too. The Ice spell is my favorite!  When you cast it you actually get to control it toward your target.
